8. Student Finance England
We are beginning the second process, which is obtaining financing. The Tuition Fee and Maintenance Loan are student loans that will merge into one when you graduate. You will only start repaying the loan if you start earning more than £25,000 per year. The repayment amount is more like a student tax than a mortgage instalment.
9. SFE Grants & Tracking
We will select grants (non-repayable allowances for parents, carers, disabled people or medical students) based on your individual situation. We monitor the status of your funding application for the following 6 months, so that you receive both money for your studies and money to cover your living expenses.
Everything you need to know about Student Finance England Funding:
More and more students are choosing to pay part or all of their tuition fees from their own savings. We can help you plan for such expenses, advise you on how to talk to the school about instalments and outline further options.
One of the main forms of support offered by Student Finance England is the tuition fee loan. This loan is available to most students and is used to cover the cost of tuition fees (usually £9250). Students do not have to start repaying Tuition fees until they reach a certain earnings threshold, which is currently £26,575 per year (2023). After 40 years, the loan will be cancelled. With a tuition fee loan, students can focus on their studies without worrying about the financial burden of the course. REMEMBER: 300,000 people pay more than £30,000 a year in cash (Tuition fees + living costs) to study in the UK. Take advantage of this opportunity.
This loan is designed to help students with costs such as rent, meals and course fees. The student's household income, the type of course, the place of study and whether you are studying full time or online will all affect the amount of loan awarded. To support a student's financial needs while studying, the Maintenance Loan can be used in conjunction with other sources of student finance. To receive a Maintenance Loan, you must be working while studying. ● The maximum Maintenance Loan in London is £13,500. ● Outside London £9,500
Childcare Grant is a type of financial aid given to eligible students with dependents to help with childcare costs. This grant does not require repayment, and is intended for students who otherwise would not be able to continue their education due to childcare costs. To be eligible for the childcare grant, students must be enrolled in a full-time degree program, receive the standard Tuition fee for students, and be responsible for covering at least half of the childcare costs. The amount of aid awarded depends on the number of dependent children and the cost of childcare. For students with dependents, the childcare grant can significantly reduce their financial burden.
(PLA) is a type of financial aid offered by Student Finance England for students studying full time who are parents. It is designed to help cover additional expenses related to studying, such as childcare and travel costs. The amount of PLA support is based on the student's household income and individual circumstances; this assistance does not require repayment. Students are eligible for a PLA if they have dependent children, are completing at least 25 hours of teaching per week, and are receiving financial aid from Student Finance England. Using these funds can alleviate the financial stress of raising children and pursuing higher education at the same time, which can be a valuable resource for parents who do so.
(DSA) is a type of financial support offered by Student Finance England to help students with disabilities (studying full time) with the extra costs associated with studying. This benefit is intended to cover the cost of equipment, support services and other expenses related to the student's disability, such as additional travel costs. The amount of DSA funds awarded is based on an assessment of the student's individual needs and does not require repayment. To be eligible for DSA, students must have a disability or long-term health condition that affects their ability to study, be enrolled in a higher education program, and be receiving financial support from Student Finance England. Leveling the playing field and allowing students with disabilities to focus on their education can be key with this funding. Using this funding can also alleviate the financial stress of combining parenthood with higher education, which can be a valuable resource for parents who do so.
The Special Support Loan is designed for students with disabilities, foster care leavers and those with other family dependents, and offers additional financial support to help cover course and living expenses.
Student Finance England offers the Dependent Adult Grant for students who have an adult dependent family member, requiring support in daily living due to a chronic illness or disability, such as a spouse, partner, or elderly parent.
Travel Grant is financial assistance for students studying abroad or doing internships. The funds help cover travel costs and related fees, such as visas, vaccinations, and insurance. The amount of aid may vary depending on the student's circumstances, including their field of study, the length of their internship or study abroad program, and their personal financial situation.
NHS Bursary (England only): This funding supports medical and dental students in England.
