Coventry university

United Kingdom
Coventry
University, College

Founded as Coventry College of Design in 1843, Coventry University has a long and illustrious history of education. When Coventry College of Art combined with Rugby College of Engineering Technology and Lanchester College of Technology in 1970, a huge change took place. The result of this merger was the establishment of Lanchester Polytechnic, which bears the name of Dr. Frederick Lanchester, a trailblazer in the Midlands automotive sector. ‘Polytechnic’ refers to the institution’s wide range of skills in the arts and sciences.

The institution underwent yet another name change in 1987 when it became Coventry Polytechnic. After this adjustment, there was a crucial turning point in 1992 when it was authorized by UK government legislation to become a university, as stated in the University’s Instrument and Articles of Government. The Lanchester name lives on despite these modifications, most notably in the names of the Lanchester Gallery and the Lanchester Library, which both honor the institution’s illustrious past.

Coventry University is aware of its significant influence on the prosperity of Coventry. It is our duty to optimize this influence’s beneficial effects in a variety of areas, such as the social, cultural, economic, and environmental realms. Beyond just offering education, the institution plays a significant role in fostering local employment, advancing innovation and entrepreneurship, conducting ground-breaking research, fostering diversity, and creating opportunity for all community members.
