University of Derby

In order to build a better, more equitable, and more sustainable future for everybody, we at the University of Derby are pushing the envelope of knowledge. Our dynamic network of scholars, experts, and practitioners is at the forefront of knowledge generation and expertise exchange. Modern facilities are available to our students, and we are an important part of Derby and Derbyshire communities.
We use research into our lessons to investigate, create, and come up with answers to problems that face our community and the world at large today and in the future. The next generation of game-changers is powered by our research-driven strategy, which develops talent and equips students with the knowledge, fortitude, and curiosity necessary to have a big difference.
Key research strands include:
- Omics Research in Metabolism: A £1.7 million investment brings together biomedical scientists, data scientists, and regional medi-tech industries to conduct cutting-edge research.
- Alzheimer’s Disease: Our work aims to understand the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s, which accounts for 64% of all dementia cases.
- Low-Carbon Renewable Energy: Our research focuses on developing solar desalination technologies for water-stressed regions to combat global warming.
Students and faculty can work together as partners on research projects through our creative Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme, planning, developing, reviewing, supporting, pursuing, and sharing their discoveries. Furthermore, our excellent online learning programs give professionals all over the world the tools they need to succeed in the future.
Stemming from our city and region, the University of Derby contributes significantly to the long-term success of Derby and Derbyshire by supporting local communities through our Civic University Agreement. We use our expertise and assets to support regional businesses, offering everything from decarbonization consulting to public service provider training.
Additionally, we view the world broadly, collaborating with institutions all around the world to generate meaningful research, encourage growth, and stimulate innovation. Our global work encompasses projects to mitigate global warming as well as the rehabilitation of coral reefs.
The £12 million STEM Centre and the Sports Centre, which has an indoor climbing wall and workout rooms, are just two of the state-of-the-art amenities available on the University of Derby’s contemporary campuses.
Strong links between the institution and business are demonstrated by the roughly 400 work placements it offers each year to help students get real-world experience and boost their employability.
According to the most recent data, 96% of Derby graduates were either employed or pursuing further education within six months of finishing their degrees, demonstrating their excellent employability.
