A Legacy of Excellence
Since its establishment in 1451, the University of Glasgow has been a beacon of innovation and excellence, ranking among the world’s top 100 universities and proudly belonging to the prestigious Russell Group. Our storied history includes contributions from eight Nobel Laureates, two UK Prime Ministers, and numerous distinguished Fellows of major academies. This rich legacy of achievement continues to inspire our current generation of scholars and innovators.
A Global Impact
As a globally connected institution, the University of Glasgow collaborates with international partners to address critical global challenges. We are a founding member of both Universitas 21 and The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities, underscoring our commitment to advancing global solutions. Our efforts align with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and we have pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Notably, we were the first European university to announce divestment from fossil fuels by 2024 and the first in Scotland to declare a climate emergency.
A Commitment to Access and Inclusion
Our commitment to equitable access to education is demonstrated through our University of Sanctuary status, which highlights our supportive environment for refugees and asylum seekers. We have a long tradition of helping talented individuals from all backgrounds achieve their ambitions. Our inclusive approach ensures that everyone has the opportunity to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
A Vibrant Campus Life
The University of Glasgow’s main Gilmorehill campus, located in the vibrant West End of the city, offers a compact and stimulating environment with easy access to the city center. The campus features a mix of historical and modern buildings, including the iconic Gilbert Scott building with its notable bell tower. Our £1 billion campus development program is enhancing our facilities, with the new James McCune Smith Learning Hub offering state-of-the-art flexible learning spaces and technology. This hub will serve as the heart of student activity, featuring interactive teaching spaces, a 500-seat lecture theatre, and a cafe.

Our team is available to assist with a range of issues, including navigating university services, addressing concerns with roommates, and accessing medical support. We also handle emergency repairs and ensure fire safety, ensuring a secure and supportive living environment for all students.
