Our vision

We will be a broad-based, research-intensive university, open to all who can benefit from a University of Plymouth education, and delivering excellent interdisciplinary research, experiential education and civic engagement.

The Core Principles

We will adapt our existing core strategic principles to enhance the University’s reputation and to understand sustainability as an embedded principle across everything we do.

1. Quality: striving for the highest quality in everything we do.

2. One Team: working, planning for and delivering a shared vision, underpinned by a strong sense of collegiality.

3. Reputation: building our institutional reputation through confidence in our pioneering contributions, excellence in education and research, socio-economic impact, and thought leadership.

4. Sustainability: sustainability in our finances, reputation, services, partnerships, environmental performance and global contribution.

We want you to enjoy living and studying in Plymouth, build life-long friendships and feel fully supported during your time with us. We offer a great variety of halls to choose from which provide a safe and friendly environment for our students.
Your accommodation licence will be with the University, and our halls are provided in partnership with UPP, the UK’s leading provider of on-campus residential and academic accommodation infrastructure.
They provide and maintain the buildings while the University provides a range of support for you, including social events to create great communities, welfare support and 24/7 security to help to keep you safe.
Our Halls of Residence are located on campus, or within the nearby Student Village – only a few minutes’ walk from both University facilities and the city centre!

Student lifestyle and nightlife

Our large student population, active Students’ Union, and abundance of student-led clubs and societies blend to create a busy and vibrant student scene. Clubs, bars, cafes, and live music, there’s always something going on.
There’s lots of choice when looking for bars and pubs close to campus, whether you’re looking for somewhere to catch a game, some celebratory cocktails or casual drinks. Bar Rakuda is at the centre of the Barbican, with an abundance of covered outdoor seating, views over the harbour and live music. Rakuda is a popular spot no matter what the season! The Roundabout is a stone’s throw from campus, and a perfect spot to meet after your Friday lectures or to watch a football match with your mates. Switch and Air Plymouth are opposite campus on the renowned North Hill; together they make a popular spot with students, as both bars offer lots of drink deals, dancing opportunities, and are open until 6am!
Plymouth’s maritime history and coastal location have an undeniable influence on life in the city. The walk from our main campus to the seafront is only about one mile, providing loads of opportunity to relax and unwind during your studies. You don’t need to leave the city to get to the coast! Plymouth Hoe overlooks several beaches with easy access to the water. Otherwise, just off Royal William Yard, you’ll find Firestone Bay. This official bathing water is a popular spot for swimmers and paddleboarders alike.
