Architectural studies in England in practice

Architecture studies in the UK are highly respected around the world, attracting students from all over the world. Thanks to its rich tradition

architecture, modern teaching methods and unique professional development opportunities, England is becoming one of the most attractive places to study architecture. Below we will look at the practical aspects of studying architecture in England

What is worth knowing before choosing studies?

Studying architecture in England offers a wide range of educational and career opportunities. Before deciding to study in England, it is worth preparing properly.

Applications to architecture studies in England are most often submitted via the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) system. The application process usually begins in September, and the deadline for submitting documents for most fields is January. It is important to carefully check the application deadlines on the websites of your chosen universities, as they may vary.

Thanks to direct cooperation with many universities, we can apply to universities directly, using the internal systems of these universities. This means that there is no deadline and people arriving on student visas should apply no later than one month before the start of the year, and people with resident status can apply up to the last day before the start of the semester.

The standard duration of an undergraduate degree in architecture in England is three years. After completing their bachelor’s degree, students have the opportunity to continue their studies at the master’s level, which usually takes an additional two years. To obtain full professional qualifications as an architect, it is also required to complete a year’s professional practice and pass the final exam.

What are the requirements for architecture studies in England?

Requirements for architecture studies in England may vary depending on the university, but most of them pay attention to:

  • exam results – high results in the high school leaving exam (or its equivalent) in subjects such as mathematics, physics or art are usually welcomed. We also offer a Foundation Year in architecture for people without a high school diploma. We apply on the basis of a high school, technical or vocational certificate. If you do not have one of these diplomas, you can first complete an IGSCE course to obtain the required British equivalent. You can buy these courses on our website.
  • Portfolio – Candidates are often required to submit a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills and interests in art and design;
  • English language – in the case of foreign candidates, it is necessary to document knowledge of English, usually through tests such as IELTS or TOEFL. Some of our partner universities also offer in-house language tests – many of which are easier and cheaper. By applying with us, you can gain access to internal exams to be more confident in passing the B2 level test.

Some universities may also conduct interviews to better understand candidates and their motivations.

How much do architecture studies in London cost?

Studying architecture in London is usually more expensive than in other parts of England, mainly due to the higher cost of living. The average cost of tuition fees for international students is between £15,000 and £25,000 per year, depending on the university and study program. Additional costs such as accommodation, meals, teaching materials and transport can range from £12,000 to £15,000 per year.

For students living in the UK, tuition fees can be up to £9,250 per year for bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and are covered by Student Finance England by providing students with a favorable loan. To apply for study funding, the applicant must have Pre Settled Status, full Settled Status or a British Passport. To start repaying the loan, the student must obtain adequate income. After 40 years, the loan will be canceled regardless of whether the student has repaid it.
