University Degree in England – No high school diploma required

6 min

University studies in the UK without a high school diploma? It’s possible! Thanks to the zero year, also called Foundation Year, students can start their academic adventure even without a standard high school diploma. This is an ideal option for those who would like to gain academic qualifications but, for various reasons, have not completed high school or do not meet the traditional entry requirements.

Who are studies in England without the high school diploma intended for?

Studies in England without the high school diploma, with the zero year as an introductory course, are aimed at people with various educational paths. They can be used by both high school graduates who want to improve their qualifications and adults who have decided to change their career or return to education after a break.

With us you have a chance to start your studies in the UK without having to have a high school diploma. We offer individual consultations during which we will discuss your alternative paths to higher education, tailored to your capabilities and ambitions.

What are the admission requirements for Year Zero?

Admission requirements for the zero-year program vary depending on the university, but most importantly, no high school leaving exam is required. The decisive factors may be the grades obtained in previous studies as well as the candidate’s willingness and motivation. Recruitment deadlines may also vary, but usually start a few months before the start of the academic year. You can apply based on a high school, technical or vocational certificate.

Thanks to direct cooperation with many universities, we can apply to universities directly using their internal systems. Thanks to this, we do not have a deadline and people arriving on student visas should apply no later than a month before the start of the year (to receive a visa on time), and people with resident status can apply up to the last day before the start of the semester.

How much does Year Zero cost in England?

The cost of Foundation year studies in England also depends on the university. On average, Year 0 fees can range from a few thousand pounds to several thousand pounds. This is usually much lower than the fees for a standard full degree program.

For students living in the UK, tuition fees can be up to £9,250 per year for undergraduate and postgraduate studies and are covered by Student Finance England by providing loans to students. To apply for study funding, an applicant must have Pre Settled Status, full Settled Status, British Passport or holding Limited Leave to Remain.

To begin repaying the loan, the student must earn adequate income; after 40 years, the loan will be canceled regardless of whether the student has repaid it.

Following Brexit, tuition costs for EU citizens have increased to around £13,000 for each school year, although the cost of tuition depends on many factors. Students must also have a Proof of Finance to prove they will be able to survive in the UK.

For international students, fees are much higher and can reach up to £20,000-30,000 per year or more, depending on the university and field of study.

If a student cannot afford to cover tuition fees or pay for a visa, we can create an online study program for him, which should amount to no more than GBP 2,500 per school year. Additionally, such a student will be able to decide to join the university campus for year 3 and pay only for one year of study.
